Ceremony

Our wedding ceremony took place at 8:00 a.m. on August 12, 2003 on a small peninsula at Waialae Beach Park.  It was a bit windy that morning; but it calmed down for the ceremony. The weather was wonderful!  We were worried that it would be to warm; but it ended up being very comfortable - especially compared to Texas weather!  Our minister, Rev. Mike Nelson did a wonderful job and was able to incorporate the Hawaiian culture into our traditional ceremony in a few very touching ways.  Our ceremony included traditional vows, a ring exchange, and lei ceremonies for both the bride and groom and the brides parents.  The lei ceremony for the brides parents gave us the opportunity to celebrate the importance of family in our lives as well as thank them for their continuing love and support.  For the bride and groom the lei ceremony celebrated the temporary nature of life and taught us to make the most of each day and live life to its fullest, while the exchange of rings celebrated the permanence of our marriage. The ceremony ended with a prayer which began in Hawaiian and ended in English.
