Placing a lei in the ocean

The evening of the wedding everyone attended the Polynesian Cultural Center Luau together. All the newlyweds were asked to dance on stage during dinner.

At the Paradise Cove Luau we participated in a Shower of Flowers. Flowers were tossed from the top of a 40 foot palm tree. Catching a flower and wearing in behind your ear is said to be a sign of good luck.

Rodger poses with a Humuhumunukunukuapua'a at Hanauma Bay. This is the state fish of Hawaii. We were able to see several of these colorful fish while snorkling later in the week.

This picture is of Rodger and the horse he rode during our hourseback ride through the montains at Kualoa Ranch. This ride offered beautiful views of the ocean, Chinaman's Hat, the mountains and an ancient Hawaiian fish pond.

The jelly fish were one of our favorite exhibits at the Waikiki Aquarium.

Wakiki Beach is home to many stutues honoring Hawaiian royality and historical figures. During a night time walk down the beach Rodger stopped at this one of Duke Poao Kahanamoku. Duke was among the first great Hawaiian surfers and helped to build the popularity of the sport. Each morning local surfers honor him by placing leis on the statue.

An old Hawaiian legend says that if you throw a lei into the ocean and it comes back to you then you will return to the island. Here is our lei coming back to us.
